Mirella Alexis – Advocate, NCS, Labor & Postpartum Doula

Mirella Alexis’ greatest passion in life is the well-being of children. She absolutely loves children and has been advocating for them for over 20 years.

Where did Mirella get her passion for advocating for children? From her own childhood. Mirella grew up hearing her mom tell her birth story and call Mirella her “miracle baby.” Mirella’s mother, Mireya, grew very ill suddenly and almost died during labor. She had to have an emergency C-section. Mirella was born two and a half months early, weighing two pounds two ounces, dropping down to one pound four ounces. She spent her first three months of life in the NICU in an incubator. She had several health ailments. But Mirella’s mother knew that early intervention was key and that it takes a village. This sentiment is often lost in today’s society, but Mirella advocates on behalf of children daily. If it wasn’t for the early intervention and the village of love Mirella got as a child, Mirella not only survived but thrived in life. Therefore, Mirella’s calling is to give as many people the education, tools, and confidence they need to help build a better world, one child at a time!

As a labor and postpartum doula, Mirella is in hospitals and homes caring for families and their newborn babies for as long as they need after they come home. Mirella and her team also provide child care workshops catering classes to needs, whether it be for parents,  nannies, non-profits, mom & dad groups, daycare providers, schools, churches, camps, and anyone who works with children.

Chicago-based, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Columbia College with honors studying Music Business Management and Marketing, as well as Early Childhood Education. She furthered her education with a master’s degree in Internet Marketing from Full Sail University.  Mirella has extensive experience and education in child development that she is constantly continuing and sharing with others. She has been a professional nanny, daycare provider, nursery attendant, camp counselor, tutor, ECE teacher (birth-2nd grade), and Newborn Care Specialist (birth-18 months).

She’s CPR and First Aid trained and certified. She has been certified in several National Nanny Training Days, Happiest Baby on the Block, and Nanny Stella of Nanny 911 certifications. She is trained in Child Nutrition, Positive Discipline, and baby Sign Language. She has been the go-to childcare provider for the cast & crew of three TV shows filming in Chicago. In 2014, she was nominated for America’s Top Sitter.

Most importantly, Mirella truly adores children! She loves encouraging language, music, and reading. More than anything, she loves being a positive and loving influence on their development and in their lives. Mirella has served as UrbanSitter’s Education Coordinator and has trained sitters and nannies on Newborn Care. She also provides one-on-one or small group workshops for parents, sitters, and nannies. Furthermore, Mirella has served as UrbanSitter’s Chicago Brand Ambassador and Parent and Sitter Representative. In early 2016, Mirella founded Chicago Nanny Training Day to spread her love and knowledge about Early Childhood Education, where she spoke about preventing child abuse. In August 2016, she became a certified Postpartum Doula. Then in December 2016, became a certified Labor Doula. Mirella is always staying up to date with the most current resources and training to give her clients the most relevant and educational knowledge possible.

Mirella’s other love is music! She is the Director of Operations for Chicago Entertainment Agency, where she runs the show, books bands, and blogs about everything music and event-related. CEA creates memorable events and brings you the best in live music and entertainment. She produces, manages, and books hundreds of events every year. Previously Mirella was the Entertainment Director at StarEvents, LLC, for nearly a decade, until starting Chicago Entertainment Agency in 2013.

To round out her work, Mirella is an advocate and consultant at Beautycounter, a top sitter for pets at Rover, and an active power squad member at Poderistas. 

In her spare time, she loves spending time with her husband, David, dog, Tucker, and cat, Milo, as well as her friends and family. She also loves to travel, support the arts, and do charitable work.
